To continue on the previous post, I wanted to highlight some of the unique qualities that sets Geaghan’s Pub apart from the rest. Listen and watch as Front of the House Manager Corey Wilcox creates three unique drinks you can find only at Geaghan’s, all with an Irish influence. He might just influence you into making Geaghan’s your one and only stop this St. Patty’s Day! Take a look and try a Geaghan’s Bloody Mary, Irish Sunset, and for you Guinness lovers out there, the Patriot Pint!

Okay, maybe not for everyone…but when it comes to incredibly delicious, freshly made Irish cuisine, the Geaghan Family reigns supreme. Situated in Bangor, Maine, Geaghan’s Irish Restaurant and Pub is more than an eating establishment, it is a landmark, ever since John Geaghan opened doors in 1975. Now in the hands of John’s son’s, Larry, Pete and Pat, the business has worked hard to preserve the look and feel of a “home away from home” atmosphere. Just look around next time you are there at all of the Maine history that lines the walls; the photographs, the signage, and the Irish themes that remind you where you are. Coupled with an amazing menu, generous portions, and enough beer selections to please everyone, Geaghan’s Irish Restaurant & Pub is a must for any weekend traveler or local alike. I

The brothers are currently beginning the set up for St. Patrick’s Day celebrations. How do I know this? Well I will be there starting very early in the morning March 17th, filming the entire day which is sure to produce a lot of smiles, laughter, good food, and of course, Irish Car Bombs. Until then, enjoy the following video as we give you a little “taste” of what an average day at Geaghan’s is like, from kitchen preparation, to the popular and delicious entrees that they create dozens of times a day.

You can find Geaghan’s Restaurant across from the Bangor Auditorium on State Street, directly connected to the Fireside Inn & Suites in Bangor, Maine. For constant updates of what’s going on at the restaurant, find Geaghan’s on Facebook. Oh and order the “Reserve” Boneless Wings, and be sure to thank me later.

They usually go for a specific reason, whether it be an early morning jog, educational purposes, or the beginning to a romantic 4th date. Yet these activities are not reserved for the local folk alone. For travelers into the area, we highly recommend this beautiful spot if you are looking for a true Maine experience.

The Orono Bog is a unique land area full of fascinating insects, trees, wild animals, and even a plant that is shaped like the pitcher of water on your living room table. I had the chance to experience all of these things when I met with Wildlife Biologist Jerry Longcore at the bog late last fall. Jerry knows everything there is to know about how bogs are created, how they are sustained, and the process of preserving these kinds of areas. This particular bog is kept in brilliant condition because of the wooden boardwalk that was built above it, and at approximately 1 mile around, it is perfect for the solo traveler or large family looking for a free afternoon activity.

In this second episode of JourneyMaineTV, you will get to listen to Jerry discussing what a bog actually is, along with some interesting aspects of the Orono Bog, and the process of how the Boardwalk itself was created. Jerry was a great host with endless knowledge, and has even invited us back to do more coverage of the bog during the spring and summer. You can head on over to the bog website at www.oronobogwalk.org to find out more information, and be sure to check out the calendar of free guided tours when you are planning your trip to the area.

Then one day back in November 2009, the final version of JourneyMaineTV was conceived, and created. Not knowing the exact way to get going, I decided I would consult cyberspace for our first guinea pig, and out went the twitter post. Two minutes later, I was planning my first shoot with master guide Don Kleiner, owner of “Maine Outdoors”, a guide service that supplies you with all the equipment, knowledge, and support to have an exciting outdoor Maine adventure.

Perfect! This is what JourneyMaineTV is supposed to be all about!

One of Don’s many specialties is fall fishing, so he planned out an afternoon trip for myself, and JourneyMaineTV co-creator, Carole Piasecki, on Megunticook Lake in Camden. It was certainly the perfect time for some fishing, as the video will prove, but I even had a revelation of my own that I was not expecting. I always thought that a planned guided tour was exactly that, planned and guided 100% by the person in charge. Yet that was not the case with Don. Once he had given a quick tutorial on technique and tactic, Carole and I were actually guiding our own experience. “When you’re with a guide”, he said, “you get to do whatever it is you want to do.” I couldn’t have said it better, Don.

“Maine Outdoors” is what experiencing this state is all about. Whether it be a fishing trip, snowshoeing, or canoeing, Don Kleiner will provide you with the basics to create a truly memorable trip. Enjoy our first episode post, and head on over to the “Maine Outdoors” website at www.maineoutdoors.biz to learn more about this one of a kind Maine experience.
